Penny Auctions are Haram.....

Hi Everybody,

I have started this blog long time ago as a free guide for swoopo and any other penny auctions site, but recently I knew that it's Haram (illegal for Muslims) to participate in penny auctions due to the gambling factor in it.

So swoopo is haram, this is because it satisfies the gambling criterion:
1. everybody loses except one.
2. everybody participating in the auction pays, and if they don't win, they don't get back what they have paid.

May Allah Bless you all.

    1. SA Abdallah,

Gambling is determined by several factors:
      1. it's based on luck, no work or effort is required.
      2. Everybody loses except one or a few.
      3. involves deception, like buying a box that can have a golden ring or a rusty piece of iron.

if you apply that to swoopo you'll find that:
      1. it's luck that determines the winner, you could bid 500 times and then another "player" bids just one and take the auction, because the auctions is not time limited and can expand forever.
      2. everybody loses money, except the winner.
      3. buying bids is actually the same concept as buying chips in casinos, and you can't take your bids worth back when you lose.
      4. in the end this site is putting pretty stuff in front of you with unreal prices, but in the end they charge you and the fellow "players" more than the actual price of the gadget as they win the loses "just like a casino house do, you lose they win".

      Hope that helps
